Mr Simon Wood is a Consultant General and Upper GI Surgeon with extensive expertise in minimally invasive surgery. He specialises in laparoscopic gallbladder removal, anti-reflux and hiatus hernia surgery, and laparoscopic groin hernia repair, providing carefully considered treatment for patients from across South Wales and the UK.

Having performed more than 1,000 laparoscopic cholecystectomies, Mr Wood has particular experience treating patients who develop gallstones during or after treatment with GLP-1 weight-loss medicines such as Mounjaro. He understands the individual concerns these patients may have and provides clear advice on investigation, treatment and recovery.

Mr Wood also has extensive experience in anti-reflux surgery, offering both fundoplication and the LINX procedure. He is currently the only surgeon providing LINX surgery privately in Wales, giving patients from across South Wales and the wider UK access to this specialist treatment.

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Wood is the National Clinical Lead for General Surgery in Wales. In this role, he works with the Welsh Government and surgical teams across Wales to improve the quality, organisation and delivery of patient care. He previously served as Clinical Director for General Surgery at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.
